Technical Engineering Service Corporation’s Sharp Edge Tester Model SET-50™ is the leader in product safety testing equipment for edge sharpness. If you have a new product that you plan to submit to UL for approval, you must use this tool to test the edges. Your product will not be approved by UL without doing so.

The Sharp Edge Tester Model SET-50™, partnered with our Tape Cape Kit Model TC-3™, is extremely easy to use. When testing with the force the tool applies, a dangerously sharp edge will cut through the two outer layers of the sensing tape on the Tape Cap exposing the black layer of tape. This means that your product does not meet UL’s sharp edge testing safety standards. If you do not cut through to the first layer of beige teflon tape, then your edge meets the UL Standard 1439 (see center column) and is acceptable for consumer use.

Our product is the only tool on the market approved by UL to test according to the UL 1439 “Standard for Determination of Sharpness of Edges of Electrical Equipment.”

This standard calls for the use of the Sharp Edge Tester to provide an objective and uniform test method for determining compliance with existing safety requirements.

There are many companies worldwide — including one in China — that attempt to duplicate the Sharp Edge Tester Model SET-50™. Please take note that they are using inferior materials and do not provide the correct internal spring which can fatigue and break.

Therefore, it renders the tool useless as it is and ineffective in determining proper edge sharpness.
