In January 2011, Technical Engineering Service Corporation released the latest model of the Sharp Edge Tester Model SET-50™, which is constructed from a glass-filled composite material that creates a stronger, more durable tool. This ensures the tool operates at maximum efficiency and offers greater strength and durability.

The Sharp Edge Tester features a clam-shell type housing which fits into the palm of your hand. It is constructed using a compact arm, sealed ball bearings to reduce friction, and a spring specifically designed to meet the latest Underwriters Laboratories’ force requirements. All moving mechanisms are protected against dirt and breakage.

In order to perform a test, the Sharp Edge Tester must be used along with Tape Caps as provided in the Tape Cap Kit Model TC-3™.

This kit consists of 44 red caps that are handmade and have been pre-assembled with three tapes. The cap slips on to the tool for easy testing. The Tap Cap meets the UL requirement of three tapes:

• 1 layer of Foam Black Tape
• 1 layer of Foam White Tape
• 1 layer of Teflon® Tape

The Tape Cap also features a 1/16” wide guideline, which is on the center of the cap and helps the inspector performing the test to “center” the tape and the tool on the edge being tested.

Use of the Tape Cap is the most efficient way for the inspector to easily and rapidly conduct multiple tests on the manufacturing line without having to install three different layers of tape on the tool prior to testing each individual item. Each time a test is performed with the Tape Cap, it can be removed, identified, and replaced within seconds; thus enabling more tests in less time to facilitate inspection reports.
